Volunteering opportunities

Volunteers at Cambridge University Hospitals join a valued team, supporting our staff to provide the best possible experience for our patients.

We recruit volunteers to fill various roles across the Trust:

There are other volunteering opportunities too, with our partner organisations. These range from roles within the hospital (such as volunteering for the Royal Voluntary Service within the cafes) to roles out in the community with Care Network and Age UK.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to help others in your community, while increasing confidence, improving interpersonal skills and developing insight. Volunteering is definitely a two way venture, providing significant benefits for both the volunteer and the organisation. Our volunteer roles are fully supported and are carefully planned to make a positive difference for patients and their families whilst providing meaningful roles for volunteers, too.

This activity may count towards your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Volunteering section, please check with your DofE Leader before applying.  We are able to accommodate candidates for the duration of all three levels.   Please contact us for further information:  01223 586616 or Cuh.volunteer@nhs.net

In return, from volunteers we require:

  • A minimum commitment of 6 months (50 hours for daytime volunteers, hours vary for volunteers on the Young Person’s programme)
  • A regular commitment, usually once a week for around three to four hours (two hours for young volunteers)

If you require work experience or shadowing, please contact our work experience department.
